Recruitment selection process
Equal Opportunities Policy
PML has an equal opportunities policy and welcomes applicants from all sections of the community. People with disabilities and those from ethnic minorities are currently under-represented and their applications are particularly welcome. We operate a Guaranteed Interview Scheme for disabled candidates who hold the minimum qualifications for the post.
The candidates who appear from the information available to have the best qualifications and experience will be invited to interview. It is thus essential for your application form to give a full but concise description of the nature, extent, and level of responsibilities you have held. The Panel will usually consist of three of four interviewers who will question you mainly on subjects connected with your academic and work/interests, as well as on topics of general interest. The Panel’s aim will be to gain an insight into your ability to communicate, your personal and interpersonal skills, your intellectual, technical and professional ability.
Interviews at PML last approximately one-two hours, and consist of some or all of the following:
- A tour of the building
- A formal panel interview
- An informal discussion with individual(s) connected with this role/area of work
- 5-10 minute presentation or talk on a given topic
- A job related test or assessment
If you are successful, we will carry out enquiries into your nationality, health and other matters, to ensure that you are qualified for the appointment. To enable these enquiries to be completed, we will need to see your educational certificates as well as your original Birth Certificate or passport and we will ask you to complete a Health Declaration form. If you are required to participate in research vessel voyages and fieldwork, you will be required to undergo a specialist medical.
