Dr Saskia Rühl is a Digital Marine Biologist within the Marine Ecology and Society group. Her scientific interest spans across disciplines, including marine ecology, biochemistry, geophysics, oceanography and machine learning applications. One of her core convictions is that a system as complex and inter-connected as the marine environment, can only be fully understood through holistic, collaborative and inter-disciplinary study.
Saskia’s particular interest lies in the investigation of plankton and particles, to better understand benthic-pelagic fluxes in general, and the biological carbon pump in particular. She is currently involved in various projects, including investigating DEcentralised Learning for automated image analysis and biodiversity monitoring (DEAL) and Assessing Continuous Carbon Export through ParTicle imaging (ACCEPT).
