Year of Autonomy 2017: Energy Management of Autonomous Air, Land and Sea Systems

Thursday 26 October 2017

The “2017 – Year of Autonomy” (YoA) initiative has the vision of bringing together innovators and users from across land, air and marine autonomy to address key challenges and share learning in a series of seminars / workshops to be held throughout 2017.

This 5th event in the YoA series focuses on Energy Management, covering:

  • Energy Harvesting
  • Battery / Power Management Systems
  • Power Storage / Docking and Charging
  • Communications and Sensing / Energy Efficiency Enablers

As the technology behind autonomy gathers pace it is vital that we have a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities associated with these systems.

This YoA event is organised by Plymouth Marine Laboratory, Plymouth City Council, Plymouth University and the South West Centre of Excellence in Satellite Applications.

It is open to businesses, academia and research institutes - all organisations with an interest in autonomy; in the design, manufacture, specification and operation of land, air and sea autonomous systems, and particularly the energy management aspects.

This event aims to foster closer co-operation and partnering across industry, academia and government. It brings together key experts from different sectors in air, land and sea to:

  • Explore the interaction between the art of the possible and the practicalities of what should be achieved through scene-setting presentations from each sector / industry
  • These are followed by a workshop / discussion session to identify common challenges and establish where opportunities lie for shared learning and best practice.

During the evening before the YoA event, co-organisers, Plymouth City Council, are hosting a visit to the Oceansgate Blue Tech Campus – the site of the first naval dockyard in Plymouth now a waterfront marine development opportunity (http://www.oceansgateplymouth.com) and a drinks reception. If you are interested in attending either the Oceansgate visit, drinks reception, or both, please indicate your interest when completing the registration form.

Price: There is a small delegate charge of £25 +VAT per head to help defray administrative and catering costs for the YoA event.
