Remote monitoring AI camera installed on PML roof to test detection of boats, birds and marine life

Seiche Ltd specialise in underwater noise and marine mammal monitoring, through the design, development and manufacture of underwater measurement and acoustic systems together with advanced visual detection systems. 

Seiche's dual camera system, featuring Full HD RGB and IR thermal cameras, is now operational at Plymouth Marine Laboratory, situated on our roof, and looking out over the Plymouth Sound. 

The camera will be collecting data to enhance our AI detection capabilities and test remote monitoring, focusing on boats, birds, and marine life.  

Jani Pewter, Instrument and Data Technician at Plymouth Marine Laboratory, said: 

“This is an exciting development in the testing of the AI cameras from Seiche, which will complement our current suite of remote monitoring technology.” 

He added, “There are hopes to further trial the AI technology with Seiche onboard our research vessel the Plymouth Quest, stay tuned for updates!”

This development comes after previous testing of the equipment last year, across our other scientific measuring sites, at the Penlee Point Atsmospheric Observatory and Rame Head.
