We are pleased to share that Plymouth Marine Laboratory is a co-organizer at the United Nations 2023 Water Conference for Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG6), 22-24 March 2023 in New York, of the side event titled ‘Source-to-sea collaboration: A game changer for the whole water cycle’.You can live stream here >>
The Conference, co-hosted by the Governments of Tajikistan and the Netherlands, will see an outcome of new commitments, pledges and actions by Governments and all stakeholders towards achieving SDG 6 and other water-related goals and targets. It will feature an opening and closing ceremony, six plenary meetings and five multi-stakeholder interactive dialogues, including on Water for Climate, Resilience and Environment’ which will focus on Source to Sea, Biodiversity, Climate, Resilience and DRR (SDGs 6.5, 6.6, 7, 11.5, 13, 14, 15). The conference will also feature a number of high-level special events and side events organized by Member States, the UN system and other stakeholders.
PML’s source-to-sea side event collaboration has the Government of Greece as the lead organizer, in partnership with the Government of Costa Rica, the Action Platform for Source-to-Sea Management, Global Water Partnership, Stockholm International Water Institute, Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organisation, DHI, Global Environment Facility, Japan Water Forum, Nireas, Ocean Sewage Alliance, Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, Plymouth Marine Laboratory, Swedish Agency of Marine and Water Management, United Nations Development Programme, United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, United Nations Environment Programme, United Nations Environment Programme – Mediterranean Action Plan, Water Science Policy, Wetland International.

The ocean, the land and freshwater ecosystems are closely interlinked and interdependent. Through applying a source-to-sea approach in our research we recognise this and aim to address knowledge gaps in support of the management of these connected ecosystems and tackling pollution at the source, upstream.
Plymouth Marine Laboratory is proud to be the first marine partner that joined the Action Platform for Source-to-Sea Management (S2S Platform), hosted by the secretariat Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) and which now also counts intergovernmental bodies such as IOC Unesco as one of its partners.
