This December 2022, Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML) will join thousands of government delegates and observers meeting in Montreal, Canada for the Fifteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP15) of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) to finalise and adopt the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework.
This framework builds on the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 and sets out an ambitious plan to implement broad-based action to bring about a transformation in society’s relationship with biodiversity, ensuring that by 2050 the shared vision of ‘living in harmony with nature’ is fulfilled.
PML’s Professor Steve Widdicombe will be presenting in the ‘An Ocean of Life: Knowledge and Solutions for Marine and Coastal Biodiversity under the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework’ event, 16 December (08:30 - 13:00 EST), taking place in the Rio Conventions Pavilion (Blue Zone). This event will explore the challenges and opportunities to move from knowledge to action in marine and coastal ecosystems in the context of the post-2020 Framework.

It will bring together high level speakers from government, science, industry, and philanthropy to explore the data, infrastructure and knowledge needs of different user groups to inform policy and decision making and showcase global solutions for conserving and restoring marine biodiversity in a changing climate. The event will also launch a major new publication highlighting the role of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development in achieving the ambitions of the post-2020 Framework.
