Sir Gordon Conway visits PML
15th October 2007
Professor Sir Gordon Conway, Chief Scientific Advisor for the
Department for International Development (DFID), visited PML in
October accompanied by Ian Curtis, Head of Profession for the
Environment.
As part of the visit, Sir Gordon was taken on a tour of the
laboratory before PML scientists gave a series of presentations on
current research and applied projects, from the post-tsunami
monitoring programme in Thailand to biofuel research and the
mitigation of atmospheric CO2. The visit concluded with
an open discussion with senior members of PML’s science team,
reviewing the topics of the day and highlighting areas of future
interest.
David Robins, Head of Corporate and External Affairs at PML,
commented: “It was an honour to meet Sir Gordon and the day proved
to be enormously informative for both Sir Gordon and Mr Curtis, and
for us. Sir Gordon had a very good understanding of the science and
many of the technologies demonstrated, which enabled free flowing
and penetrating dialogue. The visit was a success and we look
forward to working with DFID in the future.”
