Plymouth marine partners on show at international event
9th March 2010
The Plymouth Marine Sciences Partnership (PMSP) is attending the
world’s premier exhibition for the marine science and technology
community. Oceanology International 2010 will take place from today
to 11th March 2010 at the ExCel conference centre in
London.
The PMSP stand (number J200) will feature the latest cutting
edge research and technology from its seven world-class marine
science partners and will demonstrate how Plymouth and the wider
South West region are leading international research and
development of innovative solutions to tackle the growing marine
environmental challenges society face today. The stand will provide
specific examples within our three themes of Energy
from the Oceans, Climate
Change and
Environment, Health and Civil
Security. In addition, the Peninsula Research
Institute for Marine Renewable Energy (PRIMaRE), a leading light in
the field of marine renewable energy technology and a collaboration
between the universities of Plymouth and Exeter, will join the PMSP
exhibit.
Offering exhibitors and attendees the opportunity to network and
discuss potential collaborations, the Partnership will also hold
its celebrated exhibition reception, sponsored by Plymouth Gin, and
has been working with the Enterprise Europe Network to organise an
international brokerage event for the maritime sector, to be held
on the second day of the show. Scientist from Plymouth will also
speak about key issues and services in the “Ocean observing”
seminars held during the show.
Oceanology International, a biennial event, will showcase a
plethora of international marine science and technology
organisations and services as well as host five agenda-setting
conferences with high profile speakers and an awards ceremony,
visiting vessels berthed only a few metres from the exhibition hall
and product demonstrations from over 500 suppliers around the
globe.
Professor Colin Brownlee, Chair of the PMSP Board, notes that
the city of Plymouth and the region’s combined expertise, puts the
area firmly on the world map at high profile events, such as
Oceanology International, and invites those with an interest in the
oceans to visit the PMSP stand.
“PMSP offers recognised world-class strengths in areas which are
increasingly topical as concerns develop about climate change,
energy sources and renewable energy, defence and security and
sustainable management of the ocean’s resources.”
