NERC Chairman visits PML
7th March 2008
Mr Edmund Wallis, Chairman for the Natural Environment Research
Council (NERC), visited PML on Thursday 6th March to gain a better
understanding of the topical and relevant research being undertaken
in the laboratory.
Mr Wallis was welcomed to PML by the management team before
beginning a tour of the facility, which included a series of
presentations and informal discussions, with topics ranging from
ocean acidification and Earth observation to sustainable
bioresources from the ocean and
knowledge transfer. The day was finished with a concluding
session when areas of interest and future direction were discussed
in greater detail.
The Chairman was impressed by the depth, quality and relevance
of the science that he saw and commented on PML’s realistic
approach in developing solutions.
Dr Peter Claridge, Acting Chief Executive of PML, remarked: “It
was a pleasure to have Mr Wallis at PML for the whole day. It gave
us a great opportunity to showcase our worldclass research to the
Chairman, which seemed to be received well and we look forward to a
return visit in the future.”
