Nature's Great Events

18th March 2009

CalanusThe BBC's beautifully mastered series “Nature’s Great Events" is bought to a dramatic close tonight, in their final instalment entitled “The Great Feast”.

This remarkable series has revealed some the most breathtaking wildlife spectacles on our planet and this evening’s episode will follow whales and sea lions as they journey to feed on the annual Alaskan plankton bloom, which forms a major part of the diet of many fascinating fish and marine mammals.

During 2008 the BBC’s Natural History Unit visited PML to obtain close-up footage of zooplankton that make up a large part of this ecologically important bloom; a vast cloud of microscopic plants and animals that provides a feast for a huge range of marine creatures, many of which will not feed again to this extent until the following year.

A PML spokesperson commented: “It was a pleasure and a privilege to have been giving the opportunity to work with the BBC Natural History Unit on this superb programme. As avid viewers of this series, we anticipate another great show tonight.”
