VECTORS kick off meeting in Portugal
9th March 2011

Last week the kick off meeting for the Vectors of Change in
Oceans and Seas Marine Life, Impact on Economic Sectors (VECTORS)
project was held in Olhão, Portugal. The project is coordinated by
Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML) with funding of 12.5 million Euros
from the European Commission Seventh Framework Programme (FP7).
VECTORS is a large-scale project involving 37
partners from 15 countries and covering a wide variety of
disciplines. The project aims to improve our understanding of
how environmental and human induced factors are impacting marine
ecosystems, how they will do so in the future and what
the economic and governance consequences are.
Dr Melanie Austen, VECTORS Project Coordinator
and Head of Science at PML commented: ‘We have had a very
successful kick off meeting and a good start to the VECTORS project
in Portugal. The VECTORS project is unique and will provide vital
information about the future impacts on various marine sectors
including fisheries, transport and tourism. This information will
be essential for policy makers and of interest to the general
public.
