Businesses across a wide range of sectors who have demonstrated significant growth rates in the last three years have recently been ranked in the Western Morning News Fast Growth supplement.

The supplement rates the fastest growing companies across Devon and Cornwall by average growth over three years.

Topping the list this year was Newquay-based Infoteam which repairs electronic equipment that has been returned by customers to retailers or manufacturers. In second place was Torquay housebuilder Cavanna Homes (Devon) Ltd, with Plymouth-based pipe coating business Bredero Shaw in third place. Fourth was taken by our very own PML Applications Ltd. Representatives from 60 businesses gathered to find out who had come out on top at Foot Anstey's Salt Quay house base. The supplement was sponsored for the third time by KPMG, Lloyds TSB and Foot Anstey.

To be included in the Top 75 list, companies needed to have a registered office and to operate from Devon or Cornwall. They also needed to show a turnover that is greater than £100,000 in the first of the four years' accounts reviewed and over £1 million in the latest year (whilst maintaining a consistent reporting structure throughout the four years).

Companies on the last Fast Growth 75 list (which was published in May 2010) had growth

rates of between 759.6% and 17.1%, whereas the latest list ranges from a more

measured 66% to 12%. The list shows that a range of sectors, including social enterprises, are managing to buck the downward economic trend and turn in some impressive results.

All the companies that met these criteria were then ranked by mean sales growth over the time period to arrive at the final list of 75.

The Fast Growth 75 list has been researched and produced by KPMG, using Bureau van Dijk's FAME database.
