Professor Duncan Wingham visits PML

PML was delighted to welcome today Chief Executive of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) Prof. Duncan Wingham.

The visit follows an invitation from PML in order to assist Prof. Wingham in gaining a deeper understanding of the innovative research undertaken at PML. It also provided an opportunity for Prof. Wingham to discuss his view for the future of NERC with PML staff.

 

PML's Chief Executive, Prof. Stephen de Mora, led a tour around PML's facilities and experiments which included cutting edge photobioreactor technology (pictured below) and PML's Mesocosm facility. Discussions were held on topics such as carbon capture and storage and Prof. Wingham was also given an overview or the world leading remote sensing science undertaken at PML.

During the visit, Prof. Wingham led a question and

answer session with PML staff in which he stressed the importance of the marine environment and complimented PML on its research to date. He also met with PML's Heads of Science to learn about their areas of expertise and how their research groups address many of the issues facing the oceans and society, issues which are also of great interest to NERC.
