Professor Duncan Wingham visits PML
22 June 2012
PML was delighted to welcome today Chief Executive
of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) Prof. Duncan
Wingham.

The visit follows an invitation from PML in order to
assist Prof. Wingham in gaining a deeper understanding of
the innovative research undertaken at PML. It also provided an
opportunity for Prof. Wingham to discuss his view for the
future of NERC with PML staff.
PML's Chief Executive, Prof. Stephen de Mora, led a tour
around PML's facilities and experiments which included cutting edge
photobioreactor technology (pictured below) and PML's Mesocosm
facility. Discussions were held on topics such as carbon capture
and storage and Prof. Wingham was also given an overview or the
world leading remote sensing science undertaken at PML.

During the visit, Prof. Wingham led a question and
answer session with PML staff in which he stressed the
importance of the marine environment and complimented PML on its
research to date. He also met with PML's Heads of Science to learn
about their areas of expertise and how their research
groups address many of the issues facing the oceans and
society, issues which are also of great interest to NERC.
Prof. Stephen de Mora commented:
"We were delighted Duncan could visit PML. We learned much about
his thoughts for shaping the future of NERC and we are
very much looking forward to being part of the
process."
