The Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology  (IMarEST) has recently published two articles written by PML's Head of Technical Services David Smith.

Both articles were published in the Marine Engineers Review and Maritime IT & Electronics magazines on the topic of Ballast Water Exchange (BWE). More specifically they refer to the potential to radically improve BWE through utilising remote sensing data of global oceans and waterways as well as satellite imaging of algal blooms.

As part of the UK’s Natural Environmental Research Council’s earth observation system, PML provides remote sensing data processing and analysis services. Within this skills base is the ability to readily identify, in near real time, fundamental components critical to a successful and effective ballast water exchange at sea.
