International partnerships
Formal partnerships include the following:
This is a forum for leaders of major oceanographic institutions
around the world to promote global oceanography, particularly the
implementation of international and integrated global ocean
observing systems. Other members include Scripps Institution of
Oceanography, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, the Japan
Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC), the First
Institute of Oceanography, China and Institut Français de Recherche
pour l’Exploitation de la MER (IFREMER).
Recent activity includes the Seoul Declaration, which was
issued following the 12th POGO Annual Meeting in Seoul. It
represents the latest statement of the issues of concern to POGO

Sciences (SCSIO). PML scientists have participated in
workshops in China in relation to marine ecosystems, ocean
acidification and harmful algal blooms. There have been reciprocal
visits and funded studentships.
Collaboration at the research project level involves
universities across Europe and other institutes worldwide,
including: the Centre National de Recherche Scientifique (CNRS),
France; the Leibniz Institute of Marine Sciences (IFM-GEOMAR),
Germany, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA),
the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), US, the
